The library has an extensive
collection of audio cassettes in the AV Center. Many
works of literature are included in this collection. A
file located in the AV Center listing all the materials
is arranged according to the traditional library style
by author, title, and subject. Teachers are encouraged
to visit and search the file to determine if the
material needed is included. Students with visual
impairments may find it helpful to use the cassettes of
works included in the course content. The facilities
will be arranged by the AV staff to allow students to
listen to the cassettes in the AV Center.
Commercially produced audio
cassettes can be purchased to add to the collection if
there is a need. The normal procedures for requesting
the purchase of books to add to the library collection
must be followed through the department. If major funds
are required a grant must support the purchase.
The taping of textbook materials is a process that
involves much time. Delays in taping occur when the
material to be taped is not submitted at the time it is
requested. The timetable must be followed strictly if
the deadlines are to be met. Currently a grant is
supporting this process. Changing the textbook in the
course often complicates the taping of materials.
Consideration of a change in textbook must include this
extra complication. There is a collection of previously
taped audio cassettes for several courses in the AV
Center. |
