Only 13 from the faculty filled the
survey and only 31 from the regular undergraduate
students (mostly third and fourth year) gave responses.
Of these numbers 32 indicated a need for extended hours
and 12 responded negatively.
Responses were also received from:

A total of 172 responses of 291
distributed questionnaires were returned. This
statistic alone is a statement concerning the need.
Most of the Diploma and Masters’
students indicated a need for extended hours (85
affirmative and 43 negative). From the negative
responses many ticked off days, hours, services and
resources needed during possible extended hours. These
responses were ignored.
The primary need is for research
using the reference and general collection. Others
place a high need on access to periodicals and the
Internet. Some need the reserve shelf even if their
program of studies has no materials on reserve. One
pointed out the need is for photocopier use only. Many
emphasized the need to do research without any need for
the services and resources of the library. For many the
intended use is study and work in groups even though
they acknowledged that the library policy prohibits such
use. A few indicated they were unwilling to cooperate
in this area. Understanding some of the responses was
difficult.
To satisfy the needs of all for
extended hours is impossible. Times of open hours with
limited services for the library during this period of
experiment include:
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM - Monday
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM - Tuesday
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM - Wednesday
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM - Thursday
8:00 AM - 5:45 PM - Friday
10:00AM - 5:45 PM - Saturday
This schedule is effective at the beginning of October
2006. The extended hours are not offered for Open
University students.
